If you’re considering not returning to your teaching position in the fall, you are probably already thinking about drafting a letter of resignation. In this episode, former teacher and administrator, Bonnie Moore is sharing all about how to quit your teaching position with class!

The insight in this episode is so valuable because Bonnie knows what it’s like to be a teacher and administrator. More than that, Bonnie knows what it’s like to crave more growth opportunities, even after she retired! She knows first-hand the courage it takes to quit your teaching position.
Bonnie realized that all of the collective experience she had in education made her extremely marketable as a trainer and educational consultant. She started her own business working with businesses, non-profits, both nationally and internationally to help develop their training resources.
While she was an administrator, Bonnie exercised her leadership skills to develop strategic partnerships between the teachers in her school and organizations in the community. These ideas are an excellent place to start if you want to grow your resume for future opportunities
Tips to Keep it Classy
When it comes time to submit your letter of resignation, Bonnie shared some helpful tips. For one, make sure you are clear on your why for quitting so you can navigate that conversation with confidence. There’s a chance they may try to change your mind, and you want to be 100% prepared for that.
Additionally, always lead the conversation by thanking them for the opportunities to learn and grow. Be intentionally vague about your reasons for leaving so that it is clear that you’re not leaving because you’re angry or frustrated. At the end of the conversation, offer to stay connected and immediately hand in that letter of resignation.

Bonnie Moore is a former teacher and administrator who is passionate about leading and learning. She has extensive experience in leadership development, executive coaching, instructional design and team dynamics in a diverse set of industries including: corporate, non- profit and education.
She is a certified master executive coach and has certifications in more than twelve assessment tools and organizational systems. Bonnie belongs a number of professional organizations and has served in leadership capacities for many of them. She currently is a National Advisor for Chapters for the Association of Talent Development and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Texas 2nd Vice President. Bonnie serves as a Child Advocate for Harris County, a Big Sister and on several non-profit boards in the Houston area making a positive impact for individuals, families and the community. When not working and volunteering, she and her husband Greg like to travel, watch college sports and enjoy the fine arts.
