The Show Notes
Why You’ve Got to Listen to The Episode:
Are you the go-to at your school site for all things tech-related? Or do you love finding ways to use technology to enhance student engagement? Then chances are, you already have what it takes to land an EdTech job!
Don’t believe me? In today’s episode, Shannon Resare is sharing why former teachers thrive in the EdTech industry!
A Sneak Peek: Being a Customer Success Manager
EdTech companies make all kinds of tools for educators to implement, but they are only profitable when those tools are easy to use. As a customer success manager, Shannon is responsible for making sure customers are using the tools her company creates. When they do, they are more likely to renew their license.
Shannon shared that depending on the company, this job could include opportunities to be a trainer, implementation consultant, or part of the tech support team.
You’ve Already Got What It Takes to Land a Job in EdTech
But like other former teachers have shared, there’s good news about being able to land a job in EdTech. You don’t need to know an ounce of coding or have experience in web development. So what’s your biggest asset? Though Shannon says it sounds simple, it’s simply being a teacher.
Your ability to communicate what educators can expect to learn and why this tool will change the learning experience is what sets you apart.
To put it simply, if you’ve ever been in a professional development training that has been a complete waste of time, your insight is so valuable! As a teacher, you know what works, you can generate genuine interest and get buy-in from your audience.
Permission to Put Yourself as #1
Teachers are naturally really generous with their time and energy. We find it easy to sacrifice the needs of everyone else above ourselves. But Shannon challenged us to remember that if you don’t take time to invest in yourself, you won’t be able to help anyone else in a way that’s truly fulfilling.
By investing in training to take her career to the next level, Shannon has managed to more than double her teaching salary in her current roles. It often feels counterintuitive, but investing in yourself will help you land a job in EdTech or any other position for that matter!
